Obituary

Dorothy Annabell Teigen , 96, Minot died on Friday, February 15, 2008 in a Minot nursing home.

Dorothy was born on August 2, 1911 on the family homestead in Wagar Township of McHenry County southeast of Bantry, ND to Albert and Mary Mae (Wiseman) Hanson. She was reared and educated there and in Towner, ND where the family moved in 1923.

Dorothy married Arthur Teigen on November 2, 1929 in Rugby. They made their home in Towner until they moved to the Truax-Traer Coal Mine community south of Velva, ND in 1933. The family moved to Minot in 1938 where Dorothy was employed at the Piggly Wiggly Bakery, Anderson Nursing Home, Walsh Motel and as a seamstress and alterations person at Olson's Men's Store from 1967 until 1980. Dorothy and Art divorced in 1956. She retired in 1980. Art died in March of 1986.

Dorothy was a member of the First Presbyterian Church - Minot and a former member of the Towner Presbyterian Church. She was a member of the Prairie Quilters Guild, South Hill Birthday Club and Sons of Norway.

Dorothy spent hours at her sewing machine making clothes for herself and family. She began quilting in the 1970's and made more than 100 bed size quilts and 40 baby quilts. She collected dolls, thimbles, cups and saucers, and state plates. She did embroidery, crewel, tapestry, counted cross stitch, candle wicking and needle point. She enjoyed dancing, card playing especially whist, canasta, pinochle and solitaire as well as dice games and dominoes.

Dorothy's loving family includes her daughters: Corienne "Connie" McLaughlin of Minot, Alberta " Berta -Bea" Songstad of Everett, WA, JoAnn (Charles) Marshall of Minot and Surprise, AZ and Arleen "Peggy" Hauglie of Sun City West, AZ; daughter-in-law: Janet Teigen McNeeley; eighteen grandchildren: Maureen Hagen, Pat and Tim McLaughlin, Sharleen Wentz, Jerome Songstad, Jolene Nelsen, Kelly Songstad, Cheryl Hodo, Cynthia Moore, Steven, Michael and Bradley Teigen; Clark Marshall, Nancy Fourre, Bonnie Johnson, Katherine Stallman, Terri Spiker and Jayden Hauglie; thirty-one great grandchildren; twelve great great grandchildren; sister-in-law: Esther Hanson, one niece and four nephews.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, husband, infant daughter: Janet Teigen, son: Darcy Teigen, infant brother: Carroll Hanson; sisters: Lena Hanson, Gladys (Ed) Kretschner, Hazel (Earl "Happy) Aukerman, and Goldie (Al) Sheets; brother: Lloyd Hanson; and one great grandchild.

Funeral Service: Saturday, February 23, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. in the Thomas Family Funeral Home Chapel.
Interment
will be at Rosehill Memorial Park - Minot.
Visitation:
Friday from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home - Minot.
Memorials
are preferred to the First Presbyterian Church Van Fund.
