Dorothy Teets, 98, longtime Minot area resident, died Monday, May 20, 2019 in a Minot nursing home.
Dorothy was born on October 11, 1920 on the family farm south of Des Lacs, ND to Elroy and Grace (Williams) Shaffer. She was raised on the family farm in Rolling Green Township of Ward County and educated in Des Lacs. She graduated from Des Lacs High School where she was proud of the fact that she had played on the boys basketball team because there weren't enough boys to form a team. She continued her education at Minot State Teacher's College.
Dorothy married Raymond Teets on August 5, 1943 in Minot. They made their home in Lewistown, MT and Lincoln, NE prior to returning to Minot in 1948. They were the proud parents of three children and she was employed as a salesperson at Montgomery Ward, JC Penney and had been a manager at the Buttrey's Women's Store. Ray died on September 3, 1979. Dorothy had continued to live in Minot most recently at Edgewood Vista for about five years and Trinity Homes for eight months.
Dorothy was a longtime member of Cornerstone Presbyterian Church- Minot where she volunteered with the Priscilla Circle and served Chairwoman of the Presbyterian Church Bazaar. Her hobbies included playing cards, embroidery, sewing and bowling. She enjoyed watching the Minnesota Twins, spending time with her grandchildren, Sunday family dinners and square dancing.
Her loving family includes, her children: Susan (Dave) Dunsmoor and Doug (Connie) Teets all of Minot; daughter in law: Judy Teets of Minot; grandchildren, Dori Jean (Greg) Kurtz, Derek Teets, Brock (Tifany) Teets, Mike Dunsmoor, Justin Teets; stepgrandchildren: Brian (Coral) Olson, Brenda (David) Lore Mayo and Brooke (Daniel) Phelps; great grandchildren, Kailey & Maddux Teets, Jaxson Radke, Prezlie Kurtz, Parker, Spencer & Hannah Dunsmoor; step great grandchildren: Landon and Preston Olson, Declan & Jensen Phelps.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 36 years Raymond, son: Gary and sisters: Iona Wharton, Gladys Shaffer and Alta Larson.
Celebration of the Life of Dorothy Teets: Thursday, May 23, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in the Cornerstone Presbyterian Church, Minot.
Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.
Visitation: Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
