Dorothy Lewis , 79, Minot, formerly of Velva, died Monday, April 14, 2008, in a Minot hospital.
Dorothy was born June 27, 1928, near Velva, ND, the daughter of Edward and Hattie (Pretzer) Hystad. She was raised and educated in a country school near Velva, and graduated from Velva High School in 1946. Dorothy then attended Business College in Minot.
She lived in California for fourteen years where she met and married Ray Lewis; they later divorced. She was employed in the San Francisco area. She moved back to Velva for fourteen years, and was employed at First National Bank, Farmer's Union in Velva, and Cenex Chemicals of Minot. She then moved to Minot in 1978 and was reemployed at Cenex Chemicals in Minot before retiring in 1994.
Dorothy enjoyed puzzles, embroidery, doing word searches, playing cards, and going to rummage sales.
Dorothy was confirmed at a country church north of Velva and later attended Our Savior Lutheran Church, Minot. She was also a member of the Sons of Norway.
Surviving family includes: Son: Ken (Jolene) Lewis, Minot; Grandchildren: Nate and Emma Lewis; Sisters: Eunice (Bob) Swink, San Bruno, CA, Edna (Bob) Stevenson, Lewiston, ID; Nephews: Marlo (Donna) Grindberg, Hazen, Rick (Sharon) Stevenson, Grand Junction, CO, Robert (Kathy) Swink Jr., Roseville, CA, Hal (Vicki) Stevenson, Lewiston, ID; Nieces: Darlene Hofmeister, Bismarck, Deb (Larry) Pridachuk, Roseville, CA; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, sister: Ellen Grindberg, and brother-in-law, Oscar Grindberg.
Funeral:
Friday, April 18, 2008, at 10:30 a.m., in Our Savior Lutheran Church, Minot.
Interment:
Sunset Memorial Gardens, Minot
Visitation:
Thursday, April 17, 2008, from noon until 6:00 p.m. in the Thomas Family Funeral home, Minot.
