Dorothy Mardene Johnson, 81, Minot, passed away on Sunday June 18, 2017 in her home, from Leukemia, surrounded by her children.
Dorothy was born on September 12, 1935 to Erling and Anna (Hanger) Weltikol in Minot. She was raised and attended school in Plaza, ND and graduated from Plaza High School in 1953.
Dorothy married Robert Johnson on August 23, 1954 in Minot. They lived in Augusta, GA while Robert served in the U.S. Army at Fort Gordon and that is where they started their family. After moving back to Minot, Dorothy continued to be a dedicated wife and mother. For 43 years she enjoyed her job, co-workers and students at Lewis and Clark Elementary School in the lunch program. She retired in April 2016. Robert died on October 29, 1999.
Dorothy was a member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church and was active in many areas. She especially enjoyed preparing food on Sunday mornings for the Soup Kitchen and was treasurer of the church for many years and volunteered with the Dorcas Community Service group. She learned from her dear mother the importance of visiting the sick, dying and needy. She was always ready to lend a helping hand to friends, family and strangers. She was an awesome cook and baker; her specialty being whole wheat lefse and Texas Cake.
Dorothy's loving family includes her sons: Layne Johnson, Shannon Johnson and daughters: Jan (Frank) MaChette, Christina (Lance) Haugen all of Minot and Shari Johnson(Rick Sepulveda) of San Fernando, CA; grandchildren: Tani (Kenny) MaChette Nestor, Kendra (Mike) Haugen Neff, Levi Haugen, Cody Haugen, Jordan Felix and Alana Sepulveda; great grandchild, Liam Neff; sisters: Esther Williams, Petersburg, VA and Sheila (Keith) Dawson, Allegan, MI; brother: Larry (Nanna) Weltikol, Flaxville, MT; sister-in-law: Sylvia Melby, Minot and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brother, Duane (Vivian) Weltikol; sisters, Evonne (Dwayne) Tvedt and Judith (Alvie) Bradley; brother-in-law, Warren Melby and son-in-law, Fred Felix.
Celebration of the Life of Dorothy Johnson: Monday, June 26, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. in the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, Minot. Fellowship and lunch will follow the service.
Burial: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.
Visitation: Sunday, June 25, 2017 from noon 3:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
