After graduating high school in 1952, she enrolled in business school at Santa Rosa Business College. After business college, she began her career working at a bank in Santa Rosa.
In January of 1956, she went on a ski trip in Heavenly Valley, California. It was there that she met the love of her life, Wesley Lee Hay. They married on October 20, 1956 and made a home in Santa Rosa, California where they raised their four children: Teri, Darren, Kelley, and Timothy. Later they added Rigo Santos to their family.
