Doris Esther Schwark, 89, Minot and formerly of Lansford died on Saturday, March 20, 2010 in a Minot nursing home.
Doris was born on August 25, 1920 in Arthur, ND to Axel and Mathilda (Ekstedt) Anderson. She was reared on a farm near Arthur and attended Rose Valley Country School.
Doris married Alfred Schwark on June 21, 1942 in Arthur, ND. She was employed on a farm near Arthur while Al served in the U.S. Army. Following his discharge they made their home in Souris, ND for a short time before moving to Lansford in 1948 where they owned and operated Schwark Brothers Bar, Café and Hotel for over 25 years. They moved to Minot in 1975 where Doris was employed at the VFW Club and at Trinity Hospital for 6.5 years. She retired in 1984. She resided at the Henry Towers for seventeen years prior to moving to Edgewood Vista in 2008. She especially enjoyed the staff and residents at those facilities and was usually in the middle of whatever activities were going on. Al died on August 22, 1999.
Doris was a member of the Bethany Lutheran Church - Minot and the VFW Auxiliary for over 30 years. She especially enjoyed cooking, baking, embroidery and was a whiz at making rosettes and krumkake.
Doris's loving family includes her children: Sharol (Wayne) Paulson of Minot and Larry Schwark of Bismarck; grandchildren: Terri (Kevin) Schmale and Jodi (Brian) Sailing both of Beloit, WI and Jennifer Hardy of Tucson, AZ; step grandchildren: Scott Paulson, O'Fallen, MO and Sandra Dye, Troy, MO; five great grandchildren: Cory, Matthew, Trevor, Deja and Amya; step great grandchildren: Devin Paulson and Tori Dye; one great great granddaughter: Brodi Nemetz of Beloit and several nieces and nephews.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters: Martha Anderson, Edith Levin, Ellen Kennedy, Ruth Wagner, Clara Totzke, Hazel Hutchinson and Pearl Foreid; brothers: John, Gust and Hilding Anderson.
Funeral Service:
Friday, March 26, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. in Bethany Lutheran Church - Minot.
Graveside Service:
Friday at 3:00 p.m. in the North Dakota Veteran's Cemetery in Mandan.
Visitation:
Thursday from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in the Thomas Family Funeral Home - Minot.
Memorials
are preferred to VFW Auxiliary Cancer Fund.
