Doris Virginia Nelson, 94, Minot, formerly of Glenburn, ND died Monday, April 1, 2019 in her home, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on the rural Glenburn family farm in Van Buren Township on July 31, 1924, the daughter of William E. and Laura (Erickson) Phillips. She attended schools in Glenburn, Bethel College in St. Paul, MN and Minot State Teacher's College. She was united in marriage to Lloyd H. Nelson on August 28, 1943 on the family farm. Together with Lloyd, they owned and operated their family's farm along with Doris's parents. Many who came to work on the farm declared her as their "mom" and looked forward to her abundant and delicious daily meals. Doris's life consisted of hard work as she was a "farmer" from the time she was small; her dad considered her to be his "boy!" After Lloyd's death in 1973, Doris actively farmed with her son, Lowell until 2006. In 2013 Doris moved from the farm to Edgewood Vista, Minot.

Doris was a very active member of the First Baptist Church in Glenburn and First Assembly of God in Minot, serving on committees and being an organist/pianist for most of her life. She held weekly Bible studies in her home for women and couples of the community.

Doris is survived by: daughter, Sharon (Lee) Reynolds of Minot; grandchildren: Layton Reynolds, Layne (Missy) Reynolds; great grandsons: Lofton and Luka Reynolds; daughter-in-law: Cindy Nelson; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband (Lloyd); son Lowell Nelson and her sister and brother-in-law, Janet and Loren Brooks.

Funeral service: 11:00 am Monday, April 8, 2019 at First Baptist Church in Glenburn, ND.
Interment: Sunset Memorial Garden, Minot
Visitation: Sunday, April 7, 2019 from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials preferred to Global Teen Challenge, The Gideons International and Youth for Christ.
