Doris Lillian Getzlaff, 74, Minot and formerly of Towner, died on Sunday, August 24, 2008, in a Minot nursing home.
Doris was born on March 31, 1934 on the family farm in Copperdahl Township of McHenry County near Towner, North Dakota to Charlie and Ruth (Born) Olson. She was raised on the family farm and in Montana as well as in Towner where she attended school. As a young adult she was employed as a housekeeper, waitress, and at the Towner nursery in the Towner area. Doris married Marnel "Bud" Getzlaff on February 24, 1955 at First Presbyterian Church in Minot, ND. They made their home in Towner, Ray and Upham, before settling in Minot. She was employed as a waitress at Behm's Truck Stop Café, Sandman Motel, 52 Club, Moose Lodge and at the Uniform Shoppe and Minot Daily News. They have lived in the Trestle Valley area west of Minot for many years.
Doris was a member of the St. Mark's Lutheran Church - Minot and the Women of the Moose. She especially enjoyed camping and dancing in her younger years and in later years playing guitar, listening to music, playing darts and keeping tabs on her grandchildren.
Doris is survived by her loving husband of 53 years Marnel "Bud" Getzlaff of rural Minot; sons: Dave (Patti) Getzlaff and Perry (Sandy) Getzlaff both of Minot; grandchildren: Jodi (Justin) Dauphinias, Portland, OR, and Jason (Theresa) Getzlaff; Waylon (Erica) Getzlaff, David (Stormy) Getzlaff, and Crystal Getzlaff (fiancé Chris Howard), all of Minot; great grandchildren: Brandon, Kaitlyn and Paige Dauphinias and Ashlynn Getzlaff; sisters: Leah (Ray) Waltzer, Laverne (Bruce) Knapp and Viola Schell all of Minot; brothers: Vernon Olson of Minot and Charles (Shirley) Olson of Bismarck and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents, brother-in-law: Tony Schell, sister-in-law: Teresa Olson and nephews: Dean Olson and Tim Schell.
Funeral Service: Friday, August 29, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Mark's Lutheran Church - Minot;
Interment will be at Rosehill Memorial Park - Minot;
Visitation: Thursday from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home - Minot;
Memorials are preferred to the St. Mark's Lutheran Church Building Fund.
