Doris was born August 27, 1930 on the family farm in the South Prairie area of North Dakota. She was raised on the family farm and educated at country schools in that area. Throughout the years, she worked in California and North Dakota as a riveter, nurse's aide and gas station attendant.

Doris was married to Anton "Tony" Voller in 1976. They made their home in Douglas until his death on October 29, 1986. She continued to live in Douglas, until she was united in marriage to Clarence Engene on November 19, 1993. They moved to Garrison in 1997. He died April 1, 2006.

Doris was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Douglas and was currently attending St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Garrison. She loved to hunt and fish and was an active member of the Douglas Rifle Club and Minot Rifle and Pistol Club. She held the North Dakota State Women\'s Gallery Rifle Championship for seven years. She maintained a private Pilot's license with over 200 hours of flight time, but she has not flown for several years. Doris recalls many close calls, once landing west of Douglas. She cut the high line wire, leaving the Riemer farm without power at the dinner hour. No damage to the plane, only a slightly nervous pilot who took off again in a couple of hours at the urging of George Officer. She was extremely musical and played just about any instrument. She was proficient on the accordion, bass guitar and mandolin and had played with the Garrison Jammers and Friends Band. She restored a 1962 Corvair, which she proudly drove in various parades.
