Donna Haugen , 89, Minot and formerly of rural Ryder, died on Friday, October 30, 2020 in a Minot nursing home.

Donna Jean was born on February 5, 1931 in Minot, ND to Paul and E. Helen (Austad) Barber. She was raised and educated in Minot and graduated from Minot High School in 1949. As a young adult she was employed by Bausch and Lomb Optical for four years.

Donna married Richard Haugen on August 2, 1953 in Minot. They made their home on a farm near Ryder, ND where they raised small grains and cattle. Richard died on February 8, 1994.  Donna continued to live on the farm until moving to Minot in 2010. Donna entered Trinity Homes in 2013 where she since had lived.

Donna was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church - Ryder where she was active in the WELCA, holding offices as president and secretary. She was a member of the Stitch and Chatter Homemakers Group - Ryder and the Farmer's Union where she was the secretary of the local chapter for a time and a former member of the Ward County Farmer's Union Education Board. Her hobbies and interests included gardening, knitting, ceramics, cooking, baking, canning and most recently painting which was a passion.

Donna's loving family includes her sons: Duane (Carmen) Haugen of Minot and Doug (Dorene) Haugen of Bismarck, ND; grandchildren:  Matthew (Cathy) Haugen, Samantha Haugen, Nicholas (Liz) Haugen and Crystal (Austin) Jacobson; step grandchildren:  Brian (Val) Weigel, Derek (Kristin) Weigel, Kayla (Tyler) Felchle, Amanda (Jerald) Lemar and Dan (Aly) Weigel;  great grandchildren:  Adira, Kellen, Owen, Aria and Malia;  thirteen step great grandchildren; brother:  Donn (Louise) Barber of Minneapolis and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Donna was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Private Celebration of the Life of Donna Haugen:  Thursday, November 5, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home - Minot.  Masks are required and social distancing is strongly recommended.

In lieu of plants and flowers, memorials are preferred to St. John's Lutheran Church- Ryder.
