Donn Feldner , 76, Minot, entered into eternal life on Wednesday, November 15, 2023.
Donn was born to Otto and Jeanette (Merrill) Feldner in Kenmare, North Dakota. He graduated from Minot High School and Minot State University.
Donn's elementary years were split between Mohall and Donnybrook. At an early age he developed an interest and talent in baseball, and it was an activity that would become a major part of his life. That led to the development of countless numbers of his best friends and colleagues and eventually a major part of his legacy.
At the age of 13, while in Donnybrook, he was a part of the Souris Loop All Star team that won the 1960 ND State Babe Ruth Baseball Championship. In 1965 while a senior at Minot High School he helped lead MHS to the ND State Baseball Championship by pitching both games of a doubleheader to win the State title. He went on to have a very successful career at Minot State College from 1966-69 earning both All-Conference and All-District honors for the Beavers. Donn continued his pitching in the Manitoba Senior League for the Hamiota Red Sox, Binscarth Orioles and Minot Merchants from 1967-1974.
In 1970 Donn began teaching and coaching in the Minot Public School System. He started his career at Minot High School but soon switched to Erik Ramstad Jr. High School where he spent the majority of his 30 plus years as an educator. Donn embarked on his baseball coaching career in 1974 as an assistant coach in the MHS baseball program. In 1975 he became Assistant Coach for the Minot American Legion team and became Head Coach in 1976. Donn led the Vistas to Minot's first ever ND State Championship in 1977 and they repeated that feat in 1978. He also was Assistant Coach for the title winning team again in 1981. In 2001 Donn was inducted into the Magic City Youth Baseball Hall of Fame. In 2003 Donn was inducted into the Manitoba Baseball Hall of Fame. Donn remained involved in baseball activities his entire life. Stories and memories from those times will be shared by his friends for years to come.
Donn served as an officer of the Minot Elks Lodge #1089 for many years and was seated as the Exalted Ruler for the 1995-96 Lodge year. He served as a humble, caring leader and friend. His demeaner and personality made him a true Brother Elk. Donn was an outstanding mentor for the younger officers. After the business meeting he was known to share a few jokes and limericks as well as occasionally reciting "Casey at the Bat" in its entirety from memory in a dramatic manner.
Donn is survived by his wife of 33 years: Bernice; son: Corey Feldner; daughters: Shauna (Attila) Downing, Tiffany (Jayme) Calavera: grandchildren: Erik, Noelle and Tristan Feldner, Amanda Kolobakken, Michael Vennes, Tyler Kolobakken, Leah Calavera; great grandchildren: Christian Kolobakken and Mila Murray Vennes; siblings: Jeff (Wendy Yorkshire) Feldner, Susan (Tom) Marum, Tom (Lisa) Feldner, Richard (Rochelle) Feldner and numerous cousins, nephews and nieces. Donn was preceded in death by his parents: Jeanette and Otto Feldner and former wife: Linda Angelo Smesrud.
