Obituary

Donald Warren Strandberg, 81, Minot died on Thursday, November 18, 2010 in a Minot nursing home.

Donald was born on May 16, 1929 in Minot to John and Mable (Cox) Strandberg. He was reared and educated in Minot. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in February of 1948 and served on the USS Tanner until his honorable discharge in January of 1952.

He returned to Minot and married Geraldine Schieve on August 21, 1952. They made their home in Minot where he began his career on the railroad. He started with the Great Northern Railroad as a fireman and eventually became a locomotive engineer with Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway. He retired in May of 1991. After his retirement from the railroad, he was employed by Westlie Motor Company transporting cars.

Donald led a full life enjoying time with his family. He especially enjoyed building and flying model airplanes, hunting, fishing, camping, traveling and gardening. He was an active member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Minot, United Transportation Union, Golden K Kiwanis Club, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #753, and Minot American Legion Post #26. He was very proud to serve as a troop leader for the Boy Scouts of America.

Don was known as a friendly guy. He had a big laugh and enjoyed talking to anybody. He had many friends who appreciated his positive attitude and big smile. His family, and surely Donald, would like to thank all the caring people who enriched his life.

Donald is survived by his wife of 58 years, Geraldine; son: Dan (Cindy) Strandberg, Minot; daughters: Connie Strandberg and Pamela (Rick) Pierson, all of Minot and Janelle (Nick) Aieta of Westfield, Massachusetts; grandchildren: Emily (David) Tietze and Matthew Pierson, all of Denver, CO, Benjamin Strandberg of Fargo, Willa and Callum Aieta, both of Westfield, Mass; step-grandsons: Michael (Ralenia) Struckness of Minot and Chad (Danielle) Struckness of Williston; brother: William Strandberg of Topock, AZ; sister: Judy (William) Ward of Chandler, AZ and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Jack and sister, Carol Patton.

Funeral Service: Monday, November 22, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Paul's Lutheran Church Minot.
Interment will be in Rosehill Memorial Park Minot.
No reviewal, however family and friends may sign the register book on Sunday from noon until 5:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home Minot.
Memorials are preferred to St. Paul's Lutheran Church or the American Lung Association.
