Donald Arthur "Don" Solberg , 85, rural Minot, died Saturday, September 13, 2014 in a Minot nursing home.
Don was born on August 19, 1929 in Minot, ND to Arthur and Inez (Berg) Solberg. He was reared and educated on a farm in McKinley Township of Ward County, attended country school and graduated from Minot High School in 1947.
Don married Lois Freitag on October 9, 1955 in Harvey, ND. They made their home on the Solberg family farm where they raised small grains and cattle and were the proud parents of four sons. Lois died on June 12, 2004.
Don was a member of Zion Lutheran Church - Minot, Golden K Kiwanis Club, McKinley Township Board, North Dakota Farmer's Union, Minot American Legion Baseball Committee, Trinity Lutheran Cemetery Association (Sexton), an ASCS Committee and the Moose Lodge. He especially enjoyed bowling, hunting and baseball.
Don's loving family includes his children: Donald Solberg, Jr., Dwight Solberg and Douglas (Mary) Solberg, all of Minot, ND and Derek (Cindy) Solberg, Bismarck, brothers: Russell (Meredith) Solberg, Moses Lake, WA, Harold (Lois) Solberg, Racine, WI and Lyle (Darleen) Solberg, Minot; sister-in-law: Christine Solberg of Geneseo, IL; grandchildren: Dana, Andrew (Terra) and Kirsty; great-grandchildren: Bryan and Jasmyn; special friend: Lottie Griffin of Minot and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, wife and brothers, Robert, Roger and Kenneth Solberg.
Celebration of the Life of Don Solberg: Friday, September 19, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in Zion Lutheran Church - Minot.
Interment: Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Rural Minot.
Visitation: Thursday from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home - Minot.
Memorials are preferred to Magic City Youth Baseball, Zion Lutheran Church, Minot or Metigoshe Ministries.
