Donald "Don" Paul Shillander, 86, Minot, formerly of Rugby, died Monday, October 20, 2014 in a Minot Hospital.

Don was born September 1, 1928 at Rugby, North Dakota the son of David and Tina (Paulson) Shillander. He was raised and educated at Rugby and graduated from Rugby High School in 1946. He was united in marriage to Delores Kornkven September 23, 1953 at Rugby. He worked at various jobs in Minot until he was drafted into the U.S. Navy in 1955. He honorably served his country until he received his honorable discharge in 1957.

Don returned to Rugby for a short time, until he and Delores moved to Minot, where he was employed with the Robert Buchholz Insurance Agency. He purchased the agency in 1969 and operated Shillander Insurance Agency until he retired and sold the business in 1992. Delores died October 25, 2007.

Don was a member of the Lutheran Faith. He was a former member of the Minot Moose Lodge, Eagles Aerie, Elks Lodge and American Legion Post #26. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and trapshooting. He had received numerous awards for his trapshooting throughout the years and was inducted into the ND Trapshooters Hall of Fame. He was also a member of the Minot Roughriders Association.

Don's family includes, brother in law: Lyle (Carol) Kornkven, Casper, WY, a number of nieces and nephews.

Celebration of Life service: Monday, October 27, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Interment: Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Rural Carbury, ND.
Visitation: At his request, there will not be a reviewal, however friends may sign a memorial register book on Sunday from 2:00-5:00 pm in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials are preferred to the American Diabetes Association.
