Donald "Donny" Hiller, 63, Minot, formerly of Granville, died Sunday, December 23, 2012 at his home after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Donny was born October 14, 1949 in Minot, North Dakota the son of Junior and Gladys (Austad) Hiller. He was raised in Granville and graduated from Granville High School in 1967, where he was a three year starter on the basketball team. He attended Minot State College for one year and was once married to Barbara Johnson. From this union four children were born. During his younger years, Donny worked as an electrical lineman in Illinois and then returned to Minot, where he was employed with Warner Construction.

Donny was united in marriage to Kathy O'Brien on August 22, 1981. From this union two children were born. In 1986, Donny and Jim Lervik started their own business known as J & D Home Improvement. Donny kept busy with many of his favorite hobbies, some of which included softball, basketball, golf, watching track meets, baseball and fishing. Not only did he enjoy playing many of these, but he was also found supporting family and friends in these events. In Donny's early years, he was an avid bowler and never would miss an opportunity to meet up with his buddies to play darts or pool. He was a "jack of all trades" and could fix just about anything. He and his family were often found camping during the summer weekends at Lake Sakakawea.

Donny's loving family includes , wife, Kathy Hiller, Minot; children Travis Hiller (Wendy Skinner), Minot, Tori Hiller, Lilburn, GA, Elise (Chris) Ackermann, Florence, AZ, Brett Hiller and Cody Hiller, both of Minot; parents, Junior and Gladys Hiller, Granville; sisters, Bonnie McNeely (Dale Neuhalfen) Granville, Penny (Kent) Krebsbach, Sawyer; brother, Todd Hiller (Vickie Fettig), Minot; twelve grandchildren, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Donny was preceded in death by his son, Chad, and grandparents, Louis & Anna Hanson and Harry & Matilda Hiller.

Funeral service : Saturday, December 29, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. in First Lutheran Church, Granville.
Interment: Granville Community Cemetery, Spring of 2013.
Visitation: Friday from 2:00-7:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
In lieu of flowers or plants, memorials are preferred to the YMCA Cancer Rehabilitation program.
