Obituary

Donald Duane Bauman, 67, of rural Roseglen, died Thursday, April 11, 2019, while under hospice care in Bismarck, North Dakota.

Donald was born July 19, 1951 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Frank and Olga Bauman. His parents returned to Makoti that fall, where his father was Superintendent of Schools. Later the family moved to Minot, where Donald attended Minot Model from elementary school until his junior year in high school. When the school closed, he completed his senior year at Minot High School, graduating as valedictorian in 1969. He attended Minot State University, graduating Summa Cum Laude in 1973, with degrees in physics and math.

Following graduation, he chose to farm with his father in the Roseglen area. This developed into a lifetime of pursuing his enjoyment of the outdoors, hunting, fishing, conservation, and observing wildlife. In 1997, he married the love of his life, Edith Harris. He treasured every moment of their nearly 22 years of life together.

He served for many years on the church council of Lucky Mound Church, faithfully serving his Lord and church family. Donald was supervisor for the West McLean County Soil Conservation District for twenty-five years. Throughout his life, his dedication in all he did created a wonderful example for all. His love of God, his family, and his friends made up the fabric of his life.

Donald's loving family includes: his wife, Edith, Roseglen; children: Stephanie (Rocky) Lien, Clayton, NC, Lyle (Donna) Harris, Sacramento, CA, Cynthia (Travis) Bergh, Havana, ND; grandchildren: Cheyenne, Willow and Sawyer Harris, Grace and Emily Lien, Payton, Hudson and Addison Bergh; sister, Beverly (Marvin) Flaten, Garrison, ND, nephew, Justin (Melissa) Flaten, Great Falls, MT, niece, Rachel (Andy) Jacoby, Malibu, CA; grandnieces and grandnephews: Aizalyn, Mylah, Rowen and Finn Flaten, Nalani and Isabella Jacoby.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Olga Bauman.

Donald was recognized as the Regional Winner for the National Wetland Conservation Award in 1992. His integrity, faith in God, sense of humor, devotion to family and pure goodness displayed itself in every interaction, most especially with his friends and family. He delighted in playing with the little ones and wholeheartedly gave himself to guiding and supporting his children, niece and nephew every step of the way by listening and providing much wisdom in their life experiences. Each of them carries his gift to them every day of their lives. He is the hero we all search for.

As he wrote: "What a blessing—my friends are all part of my family and each and every one of my family is a wonderful friend".
