On Feb. 28, 2021, Don Craig Sandvold, loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away at the age of 91.

Don was born October 17, 1929, in New Rockford, ND, to Silas and Edith (Gutterude) Sandvold. His family moved to Minot the following year. He attended Minot Model High School and started working at the age of 15 for the Great Northern Railroad and worked all the way through his schooling. He attended Minot State University and was pursuing a teaching degree before deciding to work full-time with the railroad.

Don met the love of his life, Lavon (Klimpel) Sandvold in 1947 and until the day he died, carried her senior picture in his wallet. Don and Lavon were united in marriage on November 26, 1950, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Minot. In the spring of 1951, Don left for basic training for the Army and served two years in the Korean War before returning to his job on the railroad where he would retire from.

Don had a love and some would say obsession of cars. Cars had always been a big part of his life and he was proud of owning over 40 cars, 2 pickups, 2 motorcycles, and 2 mopeds throughout his lifetime and had a great time with them all. Don owned several Cadillacs and preferred them best.

Don's other pride and joys were his two sons Terry and Jeff. His family was the center of his life and he loved them very much. Don also loved his grandkids very much and enjoyed going to all of their events and always said how proud he was of them all. Don also loved his Norwegian heritage and made sure everyone knew he was 100% Norwegian.

Don had a great sense of humor and was able to make anyone laugh at any moment, in the good times and bad. He was the Champion of Jeopardy and the Price is Right at The Wellington during his two years of living there, but he is known as the Champion of his family. His witty humor and infectious smile will be remembered forever by his loved ones.

Don was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters Melina "Mel" and Elmyra "Sandy" and his brother Elwood "Bud."

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Lavon; his sons, Terry (Lynda) Sandvold of MN, and Jeff (Debbie) Sandvold of Minot; grandchildren, Jared Sandvold and MaKayla (Roger) Neuhalfen of Minot, David (Meghan) Sandvold, Blake (Megan) Sandvold, and Katelyn (Philip) Schmitz of MN; great-grandchildren, Jaime and Jack Sandvold, Bryn Sandvold, and Arthur and Alice Schmitz of MN.
