Dolores Mahanna, 87, Alexandria, MN and formerly of Minot, died on January 13, 2010 in an Alexandria, MN hospital surrounded by her five children.
Dolores was born on February 9, 1922 in Bismarck, ND to John P. and Ida (Giese) Henn. She grew up in Strasburg and Linton. She always said her one claim to fame was that she lived across the street from Lawrence Welk. Dolores enjoyed his music and watched the Lawrence Welk show every week. Dolores graduated from Devils Lake High School and attended one year of college at Devils Lake Business College. She met her future husband in Devils Lake. As a young adult she resided in Washington D.C. where she was employed doing clerical work.
Dolores married Harold "John" Mahanna on October 27, 1943 in The Nativity of Our Lord Jesus Christ Church in Washington D.C. Following World War II, they returned to Devils Lake. They resided in Rugby, St. Louis Park MN and Sioux Falls SD before residing in Minot from 1967 to 2005 where Dolores was employed as a bank clerk for twenty years. John died on March 14, 2001. Dolores moved to the Bethany Community of Alexandria, MN in 2005.
Dolores was an active member of St. John the Apostle Catholic Church - Minot. She especially enjoyed collecting Precious Moments tea cups and angels as well as baking, reading mysteries and attending plays, concerts and craft shows.
Dolores' loving family includes her children: Kathy (Bill) O'Mara of Parkers Prairie MN, Steve Mahanna of Huntington Beach, CA, Kevin Mahanna of Fremont, CA, Tim (Joan) Mahanna of Corcoran, MN and Terry (Lisa) Mahanna of Las Vegas, NV; grandchildren: Shawn (Joe) Tebben, Amie (Terry) Miller, Tanea Mahanna (Brandon) Zembal, Catherine Mahanna and Kieran Mahanna; great grandchildren: Rachelle, Cammie, Becky and Jake; sisters: Irene "Betty" Roesler of Knoxville, TN and Patricia "Patti" Paintner of Lutz, FL; brothers-in-law: William (Alma) Mahanna of Radcliff, KY and Patrick (Thelma) Mahanna of South Range, WI; sister-in-law: Mary Lou (Joe) Leiphon of Minot and numerous nieces and nephews.
Dolores was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister Marjorie and brothers: Paul, Jim, Dan and Ray.
Mass of Christian Burial:
Friday, June 11, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. in St. John the Apostle Catholic Church - Minot.
Interment
will be in Rosehill Memorial Park - Minot.
Visitation:
There will be no reviewal, but friends may sign a register book on Thursday from noon until 5:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home - Minot.
Memorials
are preferred to St. John the Apostle Catholic Church.
