Dixie Lee Hoiland , 71 of Minot, ND, formerly of Harford County, MD and Las Vegas, NV, died Thursday, November 13, 2025, in a Rochester Minnesota hospital.
Dixie was born July 29, 1954, in Denver, CO, the daughter of Walter and Dixie (Mercer) Murdock. She was raised and educated all over the world due to being a military brat, graduating from Minot High School in 1972.
Dixie married her loving husband Kenneth D. Hoiland on January 4, 1980, in Minot, ND. They made their home in Minot for a few short years before moving their family to Maryland for employment opportunities. Dixie retired from Aberdeen Proving Grounds after twenty-five plus years of service for the United States Army as a civilian employee with Center for Health Promotion and Preventive Medicine (CHPPM) as a GS-12 with a strong background in cybersecurity.
Dixie was preceded in death by Kenneth on July 14, 2008, but continued to live in Maryland. She moved to Las Vegas, NV in April 2015 to live out their retirement dreams of gambling and city lights.
Dixie was a long-time member of the American Legion and an active member of the Moose Lodge in Minot, ND.
Dixie enjoyed her family and grandchildren, bowling, BINGO, the keno machine at any casino and trying her luck with state lottery. Dixie was a shark on the pool table and enjoyed taunting you until you chalked up a stick to try your luck. Her favorite holiday was Christmas, and her children will always remember decorating the entire house Thanksgiving night.
Dixie will be missed by all who shared in her life.
Dixie's loving family includes her children Sherry (Matthew) Garrigan, Minot, ND, Sondra Campbell, Minot, ND and Darrin (Kristine) Hoiland, Edgewood, MD, grandchildren Anthony (Jessica) Hedges, Daniel McNally, Christopher Campbell, Brittany Campbell and Darrin Hoiland, Jr., great-grandchildren Zachary, Elijah and Audrina, sisters Judy Sauceda, Michigan and Susan Palmer, Texas along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Dixie was preceded in death by her parents, husband Kenneth and sisters Beverly and Valerie.
Per Dixie's request, no service will be held.
