Obituary

D.F. David Lafontaine, 77, 810 Arbor Ave. - Minot and formerly of Berthold died on Saturday December 9, 2006, in a Minot hospital.

Don Francis David Lafontaine was born on April 24, 1929, in Berthold, ND, to Matthew and Florence (Johnsen) Lafontaine. He was raised in Berthold and graduated from Berthold High School in 1947. As a young adult he was employed at Bud's Food Market and Keiser Amusement and Farms in Berthold.

David married Margaret Ulberg (also from Berthold)on March 7, 1953, at Zion Lutheran Church in Berthold. They made their home in Minot where he was employed at Evenson Welding prior to beginning employment with Montana Dakota Utilities (MDU) in 1955 as a welder. He retired in 1991 following thirty-five years with MDU, most of those as a serviceman general. They continued to make their home in Minot.

David was an activelongtime member of First Lutheran Church - Minot. He was a member of the Eagles Aerie, Elks Lodge and was a forty-five year member of the Moose Lodge. He loved spending time with his family camping and fishing. As a retiree, his new job became his golf game and evening bingo. Over the years he enjoyed playing darts, bowling, and picking his favorite football teams. David was well known among family and friends as the fellow who could fix anything. His inquisitive mind was evident in his interest in astronomy, nature, classical music and figuring out a tough puzzle.

David's family includes his loving wife of fifty-three years Margaret; Children: Dana (Warren) Ekblad of Maple Valley, WA, Debra (Roger) Glick of Minot, Daniel (Laurie) Lafontaine of Plymouth, MN, Don (Jennifer) Lafontaine of Temecula, CA, Dean Lafontaine of Minot and Douglas Lafontaine of Eden Prairie, MN; Fifteen Grandchildren: Amanda (Mike) Smitken, Sean and Medora Ekblad; Jason, Jared and Jordan Glick; Margo, Matthew and Marisa Lafontaine; Jamie (Nick) Apffel and Justin Lafontaine; Jim, Brent and Brigitte Lafontaine and Phillip Lafontaine; Great Grandchildren: Sabrina Smitken, Nicholas Apffel and Jamison Lafontaine; Brothers: John (Beverly) Lafontaine of Lakeside, CA and Roger (Arlene) Lafontaine of Minot and Sister-in-Law: Mary Lafontaine of Minot and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

David was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Muriel LeClair and brother, Mel Lafontaine.

Funeral Service: Wednesday, December 13, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. in First Lutheran Church - Minot.
Interment will be in Wildrose Cemetery - Berthold.
Visitation: Tuesday from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home - Minot.
