DeWayne Clarence Martin, 75, Minot, and longtime Minot State University professor, died on Thursday, March 10, 2011, in his home.
DeWayne was born on July 17, 1935, in Wausau, Wisconsin to Harold and Helen (Dupuis) Martin. He was reared and educated in Stevens Point WI and graduated from P.J. Jacobs High School. He continued his education at the University of Wisconsin Madison where he earned a B.S. degree in 1957 and a M.S. Geology degree in 1960. He also did additional graduate work there.
DeWayne married Karen Mortensen September 7, 1957, in Stevens Point, WI. They made their home in Minot where he was an Associate Professor at Minot State University for thirty-five years. He taught Earth Sciences and other courses, and established and operated the astronomical observatory at the University. He retired from MSU in 1996. His interests included fishing and hunting, landscape painting, and lapidary/silversmith work.
DeWayne's loving family includes his wife: Karen; daughters: Cindy (Jesse) Cook of Minot and Kathy (Al) D'Alessandro of Poughkeepsie, NY; grandchildren: Alexa, Callie and Colton Cook of Minot and Christina, Michael and Matthew D'Alessandro of Poughkeepsie; sister: Marilyn (Raymond) Gockowski of Duluth, MN; brother: Roland (Carole) Martin of Amherst Junction, WI and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
DeWayne was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial Service: Monday, March 14, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. in First Presbyterian Church, Minot.
Interment will be in Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.
Memorials are preferred to the Minot Symphony Orchestra or the Minot Public Library.
