Derek Jay Lund, 45, died on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, in a Minot hospital.

Derek was born on June 21, 1981, on Father’s Day, in Minot, N.D., to Ardell and Joan (Lukach) Lund. He was raised and educated in Minot, attending Our Redeemer’s Christian School through sixth grade, then Bishop Ryan Catholic School. Derek graduated from Bishop Ryan in 1999. He played on the basketball and tennis teams in high school.

Derek enjoyed playing both basketball and tennis with the high school team and liked playing with his teammates. He liked all of his classmates.

If there was any sporting event on TV, you could bet that Derek would be watching. He loved watching any and all sports. Derek also especially enjoyed spending time with his cousins. He spent a lot of time with his parents as an adult.

Derek always had a smile on his face. His smile would light up any room and make you want to smile, too. Everyone was Derek’s friend. He was a kind, gentle soul who wouldn’t dream of hurting anyone or anything. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Derek’s loving family includes his parents, Ardell and Joan, and brother, Shaine, of Minot; grandmother, Dorothy Lukach, of Hot Springs, S.D.; and numerous relatives.

A small family graveside service will be held in the Spring of 2027.
