Dennis E. Barnes, 92, Minot, died Saturday, September 6, 2014 in a Velva Nursing Care Center.

Dennis was born February 12, 1922 at Standard, Alberta, Canada the son of Donald and Esther (Peterson) Barnes. He was raised and educated at Owego, NY and graduated from High School there in 1940. He later attended schools in Almira, NY, Pennsylvania and at Texas A&M. He was drafted into the US Army in 1941 and honorably served his country for more than 20 years during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He received his honorable discharge from the Army Air Force in 1964.

Dennis was united in marriage to Gladys Hanson on October 5, 1957 in Denmark Township of Ward County. They made their home in Canada and Anchorage, AK, before moving to Minot in 1964. He began employment with Newberry's Department Store, the US Postal Service, before completing his career with the Civil service at the Minot Air Force Base for 10 years, retiring in 1985.

Gladys died March 22, 2013.

His loving family includes, children, Susanne (David) Wallace, Dickinson, Kathryn (Mike) Larson, Minot; grandchildren, Cori, David Jr., and Jason Wallace; Shannon Bertsche, Kelsey Howard and Hannah Williams; great-grandchildren, Rylee, Brody & Tyler Wallace.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Gladys, brothers, Duane & Donald and sister, Muriel.

Private Family Graveside Service: will take place at a later date in the Bowbells Community Cemetery.
