Obituary

Delores Mae Hanson, 89, Minot, died Tuesday, 20 August 2013 in a Minot Hospital.

Delores was born on 9 October 1923 in Mayville, North Dakota. The daughter of Richard and Margaret (ne Jonsson) Schulz, she was raised on the family farm near Amenia, North Dakota and attended country schools in that area. She graduated from Casselton High School and furthered her education at Moorhead State Teacher College, where she received a Bachelor of Arts in education.

After working as a munitions factory manager in Michigan during World War II, Delores taught high school for several years in Grafton, ND and then Pelican Rapids, MN, where she met the love of her life, Odin C. O. Hanson. They were united in marriage on 17 June 1946 in Moorhead, MN. The couple moved to Minot in 1948, where Odin took a sales position with Nabisco. Along with raising their four children, Delores was employed by Minot Federal Savings and Loan. She taught for 17 years for Minot Public Schools as a homebound instructor.

Delores was a longtime member of Christ Lutheran Church in Minot, where she was active with the Women of the Church, served on the Church Council and taught Sunday school classes. She was also a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority, an active member of the North Dakota Women's Republican Party, a voracious reader, respectable bridge player, and enjoyed gardening, corresponding with relatives in Sweden, spending time with her family, and vacationing.

Delores is survived by her loving children Kyle (Celeste) Hanson of Minot, Signe (Jim) Schmelzer of Rochester, MN, Todd Hanson of Largo, FL, and Julie (Harry) Thrailkill of Minot; grandchildren Danny (Tasha) Hanson, Adam & Maija Schmelzer, Jacob, Liam & Matthew Thrailkill; grandson-in-law, Todd Behm; five great-grandchildren, Olivia, Owen and Oakdin Hanson and Ethan and Avery Behm; step grandchildren Travis and April Hiller; five step great-grandchildren; brothers, Wally Schulz of Marquette, MI and George Schulz of Pelican Rapids, MN; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Delores was preceded in death by her parents, husband of sixty six years, Odin, granddaughter Chandie Behm, and brother Carl Schulz.

Funeral service : Saturday, 24 August 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church, Minot.
Visitation : Friday, 23 August 2013 from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Graveside service : Monday 26 August 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at Oak Grove Cemetery, Fergus Falls, MN.
Memorials are preferred to Christ Lutheran Church or Trinity Hospice.
