David D. Ortmann, 68, Minot, died on Monday, June 9, 2008, in his home.

David was born January 24, 1940, in Max, ND, to Ernest and Emma (Schlecht) Ortmann. He was raised on the family farm and graduated from Sawyer High School in 1958. He had attended college for one year in Minot.

David was united in marriage to Clarabelle Baltrusch on December 23, 1962 at Church of God, in Bowdon, ND.

He attended Hanson Trade School in Fargo, ND in 1965 and was employed by Wallworks as a janitor until moving to Minot in July 1965.

David gained employment at Krebsbach's International as a mechanic for 15 years. Later, David was employed at Butler Machinery, Porter Brothers and Neilson Stewart GMC before starting employment with the City of Minot in 1988.

David worked in the city shop attaining the position of the city shop and bus foreman in Minot, working until his retirement on February 1, 2008. He always treasured the friendships gained with his co-workers over the years.

David was a longtime member of Calvary Alliance Church, serving as an Elder and also a treasurer for over 40 years. David also served as vice-chairman of the Calvary Alliance Board of Directors.

David's hobbies include bird watching, fishing, gardening, and helping his wife quilt. He took great pride in his family. David loved listening to Daniel and Cherie play the violin, and working with Donnie on wrought iron projects for the church. David took great pride in spending time with his grandchildren watching all their activities and loved every minute of his forty-five years with his wife, Clarabelle.

David's life was a great testimony to his faith in God and relationship with Jesus. He has always been a guide for others in his life, whether at home, with his church family, or at the city shop. Even after his stroke, he was confident that God was in charge and always has known what was best. David will be deeply missed by all who shared in his life.

Surviving family includes: Loving wife of 45 years, Clarabelle; Children: Daniel (Wanda) Ortmann, St. Paul, MN, Donnie (Pam) Ortmann, Minot, ND, Cherie (Joe) Korner, Burlington, ND; Grandchildren: Ashley Korner and Austin Ortmann; Brothers: Walter (May) Ortmann, Sawyer, ND and Raymond (Carol) Ortmann, Quilcene, WA; Sisters: Esther Jensen, Des Moines, WA, Janice (Bob) Pedde, Casa Grande, AZ, and Lillian (Len) Pedde, Seattle, WA; and many numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

David was preceded in death by his parents and infant brother, Paul.

Funeral: Saturday, June 14, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the Calvary Alliance Church, Minot, ND;
Interment: Church of God Cemetery, rural Benedict, ND;
Visitation: Friday, June 13, 2008, from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Thomas Family Funeral Home of Minot.
Memorials: Memorials are preferred to the Calvary Alliance Church Building Fund.
