David Matthew New, 86, Surrey, died, Monday, September 8, 2014 at his home surrounded by his family.

David was born September 4, 1928 on the family farm in Waterford Township of Ward County. He was raised and educated at rural Glenburn and enlisted with the U.S. Army's 82nd Airborne Division, serving his country from 1948-1956. He returned to North Dakota and was united in marriage to Helen Frey on September 28, 1957 at Evangelical United Brethren Church, Minot.

Throughout the years, David was employed in auto body repair work in Minot and Colorado Springs, CO, before moving to Great Falls, Mt where he was a GSA Automotive inspector and later in Ogden, Utah. He retired in 1991 and they moved to Surrey.

David was a handyman of all kinds. He loved working on cars. He attended Faith United Methodist Church, Minot and was a member of the American Legion Post #26.

His loving family includes , wife of 56 years, Helen; children, David (Kelli) New, Glendale, AZ, Kevin New, Colorado Springs, CO, Timothy (Yana) New, Colorado Springs, CO and Michelle Cherie New (David Edel), Wellston, MI; grandchildren, Lt Patrick (Amanda) New, Zachariah New, Matthew New; great-grandchildren, Logan Isabella New; sister, Mary Hambeck, Anoka, MN; sister-in-law, Corrine New, Mesa, AZ.

David was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Selina; brothers, Arthur, Walter, Jesse, Frank and George Jr; sisters, Vera Benton, Lorraine Davis, and Lucille Goettle.

Funeral Service : Friday, September 12, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in Faith United Methodist Church, Minot.
Interment : Sunset Memorial Gardens, Minot
Visitation : Thursday, September 11, 2014 from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Family Service: Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home.
Memorials: preferred to Trinity Hospice.
