David Oleander Larson, 74, Sawyer and formerly of Minot, Bottineau and Westhope areas died suddenly and peacefully on Tuesday, December 12, 2012 in his home.
David was born on May 7, 1938 in a log cabin located on the family farm in Homen Township of Bottineau County near Lake Metigoshe to Albert and Alida (Hoffers) Larson. He was reared and educated on the family farm and attended Loon Lake #5 Happy Hill School. As a young adult he assisted his family with the operation of the family farm and then served three years in the North Dakota Army National Guard and received an honorable discharge. During the mid-50's, he worked for Alvin Johnson, an Omemee area farmer and then as a roughneck on the oil rigs in North Dakota and Wyoming. In 1957 David was employed by the C.R. Gleason Chevrolet Garage of Bottineau area where he worked on the classic Chevy's that we consider dream cars today. In 1960 he was married to Carolyn Lee of Bottineau and made their home in the Bottineau area.
In 1963 he and Carol purchased the Four Corners Service Station six miles south of Westhope where he serviced vehicles, offered groceries and even sold Scorpion snowmobiles. He was the proud recipient of several sales and service awards. David and Carol divorced in 1970 and he was later married to Jean Johnson of Sherwood. He moved to Landa in 1975 where he purchased and operated the Bill Gorder Bulk Fuel Distributorship. He also served as the Mayor of Landa during this time. David moved to Minot in 1980 where he enjoyed a successful 20 year career as a salesman with The Farstad Oil Company. He retired in 2000 and remained active with family, friends, servicing neighbor\'s mowers and restoring vintage lawn tractors.
David was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Minot and a former member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Westhope where he was a member of the church council. He served on the Serquis Township Board and was a member of the Elks Lodge and Eagles Aerie both in Minot.
David is survived by his children: Joey (Irina) Larson of Chanhassen MN, Johnathon "JD" (Brenda) Larson of Velva, Holly Larson Luther of Minot, Jennifer (Kevin) Kissner of Minot and Kimberly (Terrel) Broussard of Housatonic, MA; thirteen grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, sisters: Yvonne (Myron) Amundson of Fargo, ND, Sharon Wolf of Fargo, ND, Paulette Efimenko of Lake Metigoshe, ND and Theresa (Arlin) Nelson of Souris, ND; brothers: Audrin (Marlys) Larson of Bottineau, Lowell (Eleanor) Larson of Artesis, NM, Elmon (Karen) Larson of Omaha, NE, Timothy (Mariolie) Larson of Overland Park, KS, and Matthew (Peggy) Larson of Bottineau; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
David was preceded in death by his parents, brother Harold and sisters: Mavis Sutter and Carol Long.
Celebration of the Life of David Larson: 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 18, 2012 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Minot, ND.
Graveside Service: During the late spring of 2013 in the Salem Lutheran Cemetery near Lake Metigoshe.
Visitation: Monday, December 17, 2012 from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home - Minot.
