David "Rex" James, 81, Minot, died Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at his residence.

David "Rex" James was born on September 8, 1936 in Taintor, Iowa to Lloyd and Blanche (Roten) James. He was raised and educated in Lynnville, Iowa, graduating from high school in 1955. He attended NW Bible College for one year in Minot.

Rex was united in marriage to Maxine Brandt on August 9, 1957 in Lynnville. Following their marriage, they made their home in Minot. Rex began his employment with Samuelson's Shoe Store in Minot in 1957 and retired in 1994 after 37 years of service. Additionally, he was employed at Herslip Construction.

Rex and Maxine enjoyed their time at their lake cabin at Strawberry Lake. He was an active member of West Minot Church of God, where he served on the Church Council. Rex sang in the Prairie Gospel Quartet for 24 years and with the Nodakords for two years. In his spare time, he enjoyed spending time outdoors in the garden, hunting, and trapping.

Rex's loving family includes wife, Maxine, Minot; children, Vicki (Roger) Locklear, Baltimore, MD, David James, Chicago, IL Lisa (Bob) Franca, Minot, ND; nine grandchildren; three great grandchildren; brothers, Carl (Kathy) James and Roy (Dianne) James, all of Lynnville, IA.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Celebration of Life Service: Tuesday, July 24, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. in West Minot Church of God.
Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot
Visitation : Monday, July 23rd from 3:00-6:00 p.m. in the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
