David Hand, Lieutenant U.S. Navy (Retired), 68, Minot died on Monday, May 13, 2019 at his home from complications related to diabetes.

David Eugene Hand was born on February 16, 1951 in Corning, NY to Vincent and Lillian (Borden) Hand. He was raised and educated in Portville, NY and graduated from Portville Central High School in 1969.

David enlisted in the U.S. Navy on August 7, 1969 and served primarily as an Assistant Navigator and Quartermaster aboard the USS Providence, Robinson, James Kyes, Samuel Gompers, Tripoli, Denver, Reeves, Fort Snelling, Dwight D. Eisenhower, Shasta and Austin and was stationed in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii and The Phillippines. He was accorded the following medals: Commendation, Achievement, Unit Commendation and Commendation as well as Good Conduct, Vietnam Service, Vietnam Campaign, Navy Expeditionary, National Defense, Armed Forces Expeditionary (Korea) and Humanitarian Services Medals. He received his honorable discharge as a Lieutenant on December 31, 1992. He was proud to be a Mustang in the U.S. Navy.

David was once married to Aurora Dizon. He married Sally Forbes on December 28, 1999 in Minot. They made their home in Minot where he was employed by REM for sixteen years.

David was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #753 and American Legion Post #26. He was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and enjoyed his coffee time.

David is survived by his loving wife of almost 20 years: Sally; children: Brian Hand and David Hand Jr both of Virginia; stepchildren: Joshua (Heather) Ofsthun of Burlington and Mitchelle Ofsthun of Minot; five step grandchildren: Jacob, Lakin, David, Colley and Finley; half-sister: Sylvia and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

David was preceded in death by his parents, sisters: Virginia and Shirley and brother: James.

David will be interred in the Veterans Section of Rosehill Memorial Park - Minot.
