David L. Anderson , 98, New Hope, MN, formerly of Kenmare and Minot, died Sunday, December 11, 2016 in a New Hope Care Center.
David was born February 20, 1918 at Bowbells, North Dakota the son of Andrew and Beana (Holmes) Anderson. He was raised on the family farm near Coteau, ND and graduated from Bowbells High School. Upon completion of his schooling, he was employed as a truck driver for Kenmare Laundry. He proudly served his country with the U.S. Army during World War II.
After receiving his honorable discharge, he returned to North Dakota and was united in marriage to Marion Johnson on June 22, 1949 at Kenmare. They made their home in Minot, where he was employed at Anderson Ace Hardware, selling appliances and hardware. He also worked for Scheels Sporting Goods and Hardware. After retiring, he worked part time at other area hardware stores until he was 82 years old. He and Marion lived in the Minneapolis area for the past several years to be nearer their daughter, Susan. Marion died October 18, 2016.
David was a longtime member of Zion Lutheran Church, Minot. He was an avid fisherman, especially enjoying ice fishing. He and Marion enjoyed their long road trips through the mountains of Montana and Idaho to visit their grandchildren.
David's family includes, sons, Mark (Janice) Anderson, Moscow, ID; Tom (Molly) Anderson, Milwaukee, WI; Susan Anderson, Minnetonka, MN; grandsons, Ben (Erin Sterling) Anderson and Eric Anderson, both of Seattle, WA; great granddaughter, Ramona Sterling-Anderson.
David was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marion; sisters, Mabel Nelson, Lillian Swenson and Eleanor Fargo and a brother Earl Anderson.
A graveside service will be held in the summer of 2017 at Lakeside Cemetery, Kenmare.
Memorials are preferred to Zion Lutheran Church, Minot.
