David Elmer "Dave" Darmody, 76, Makoti, died Monday, May 30, 2011, in a Minot nursing home.

Dave was born December 16, 1934, in Rochester, MN, to Elmer and Annastasia (Lannigan) Darmody. He was raised and educated in Grantsburg, WI, where he graduated from high school in 1952.

He was once married to Linda Oetkien. They resided in Iowa, Minnesota and Grand Forks, ND, where Midwest Motor Express employed him for 3 years. Dave moved to Jamestown, working in sales through 1976. He owned and operated a sign company in Hays, KS, until moving the business to Fergus Falls, MN, following his marriage to Lois Tollefson in Erhard, MN. Dave also worked as an independent painting contractor, focusing primarily on sales.

Lois passed away in 1994. Dave moved to Makoti in 1996, where he Nancy Laine Ditburner. They married on August 16, 1997. They owned and operated the Makoti Caf until 1998.

Dave was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church of rural Makoti, and the Makoti Senior Center. He had a passion for football and baseball, rooting faithfully for the Vikings and Twins. He loved to travel, enjoyed reading, music and spending many hours visiting with longtime friends.

His loving family includes: wife, Nancy Darmody, Minot; children, Tami (Tony) Simon, Richmond, VA, Michael (Kirsten) Mitchner, Rome, Italy, and Brian Cox, Pekin, IL; step-children, Carol (John) Ripley, Kathy (Rocky) Norgren, Charlene (Glen) Flaadland, all of Erhard, MN, and Mark Tollefson, Tucson, AZ; 14 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; sisters, Donna Volgren, Balsam Lake, WI, and Barbara (Loran) Hoffman, Cushing, WI; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Dave was preceded in death by: his parents; wife, Lois; stepdaughter, Charlotte Tollefson; and brother-in-law, Nels Volgren.

Funeral Service: Monday, June 6, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. in Hope Lutheran Church, Makoti.
Interment: St. Paul's Lutheran Church Cemetery, rural Makoti.
Visitation: Sunday from noon until 5:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home Minot.
