Obituary

Darlene J. Verner, 87, Bismarck, formerly of Minot, died Monday, October 08, 2018, in a Bismarck nursing home.

Darlene was born August 17, 1931, to Archie and Rose (Geyer) Dennis in Minot, ND.  She received her education in a county school house and also in the city of Minot, graduating of Minot High School in 1949.  After high school, Darlene began working as a secretary for Western Auto Parts of Minot.

Darlene was united in marriage to William Verner at First Presbyterian Church on December 19, 1952 in Minot.  She joined her husband as an employee of Northern States Power working as a secretary to the manager of the company until retiring in January of 1988 after 36 years of service.

Darlene was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Minot and was active in various church circles.  Darlene and William enjoyed the outdoors.  They spent many hours fishing out of Pouch Bay of Lake Sakakawea along with the gift of many sunset views from their spot on the lake.  Fall greeted them with the promises of pheasants for the supper table and the changing seasons.   She enjoyed music, movies, crossword puzzles and spending time on the computer.  Darlene could also be found reading a book or spending time in the garden showcasing her love for fresh colorful flowers.

William passed away August 14, 1999.  Darlene remained in Minot until December 2014, when she became a resident of the Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center in Bismarck.

Darlene is survived by a son, Lanny Verner of Redondo Beach, CA; brothers, Hillis (Norma) Dennis of and Archie Dennis both of Westfir, OR and brother-in-law, Howard Paul of Canton, SD; and nephews, Ryan Dennis, Aaron Dennis and Steve Paul.
