Obituary

Darlene Myrna Kallias, 81, long time Minot resident, died Monday, April 15, 2013 in Trinity Hospital with her family at her side.
Darlene was born December 31, 1931 on the family farm near Palermo, North Dakota, the daughter of Arvid and Hulda (Halverson) Johnson. She was raised on the family farm in Palermo Township of Mountrail County and educated at rural schools near her home. She moved with her family at the age of 11 years old to Minot and continued her education. She also helped at her mother\'s cafe over the next for 4 years.
Darlene was united in marriage to John Kallias on May 8, 1949 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Minot. After their marriage, Darlene helped in the raising of her brother and sister for a period of time. Darlene and John would make their home in Minot, where they purchased their first house and would raise their six children. The family moved to Williston and lived there from May of 1961 to September of 1964. Due to a fire at John\'s employment with the GTA facility the family would be returning to Minot. In the fall of 1964, ground breaking took place for a new business. They became the new owners of Magic City Hatchery in south Minot. Darlene managed all aspects of the business office plus working side by side with Johnny in the hatchery operation. They operated the business for 34 years until the sale of the hatchery in 1997. John passed away on August 18, 2012.
Darlene was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, the Mother\'s Club and a former member of the Women of the Moose. She also was an avid fan of the Minnesota Twins. She crocheted and embroidered many, many beautiful and colorful items over the years, giving many as gifts to her family. She liked to read, enjoyed traveling and spent many hours cooking and baking her specialties for her family. Darlene and John enjoyed gardening followed by mother\'s fall canning with her daughters.
