Darlene M. Gebur , 84, Surrey, ND died Thursday, May 31, 2018, in a Minot hospital.
Darlene was born December 21, 1933 on the family farm near Sarles, North Dakota to John and Mary (Feil) Boldt. She was educated in Howel, Egeland and Rock Lake. She graduated with the Rock Lake High School Class of 1951. She attended college in Minot and Mayville, earning her teacher's certificate in 1951. Darlene taught all 8 grades in various country schools throughout the Rock Lake area for several years.
Darlene was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart Wayne L. Gebur on June 8, 1953, in Rock Lake, ND. They made their home in Wahpeton, while her husband completed his schooling. They moved to Minot in the late 1950's and settled in Surrey in 1969. She worked at a bridal boutique in Arrowhead Shopping Center for a short time.
Darlene was exceptional in her role of a mother to her children. She never missed a ballgame or event that involved her children. She also led their 4H groups and served as manager of a youth baseball team for a summer. As she was blessed with grandchildren she took on the role of biggest fan and supporter. Board games, playing cards and visiting were always on the list of activities with her grandchildren and of course spoiling them with cookies, sweets and most important, her time.
Darlene cannot be mentioned without her loving husband, Wayne. Although, he started out picking on his soon to be sweetheart and courted her in his father's 1949 Chevy grain truck, they made a beautiful life. Together they enjoyed square and round dancing all over North Dakota, Montana and Canada during their younger years. They were members of the Minot's Moose Lodge and Eagles Aerie. She was an avid bowler and loved to crochet, do crafts and play bingo. She volunteered at the Surrey School for many years assisting many children as a tutor in reading. She served the community of Surrey as an election volunteer and was always ready to support Hostfest with her time when it came to Minot. She will be dearly missed by all who shared in her precious life.
Darlene's family includes her loving husband of nearly 65 years, Wayne Gebur, Surrey, ND; children, Larry (Debbie) Gebur, Lincoln, IL, Ron Gebur, Deering, ND, Vicky (Terry) Miller, Republic, MI and Kathy (Joe) Piper, Enid, OK; 12 grandchildren, Camille Gebur, Bethany Gebur, Jackie (Shawn) Milligan, William May, Aaron Gebur, Tara Gebur, Marsha (Chad) Dickenson, Jason (Katina) Miller, Destiny (Cameron Martin) Miller, Derick (Shannon) Piper, Samantha Piper, Tiffany Piper; 16 great grandchildren, Gage Gebur, Ralph, Joseph and Chloe Milligan, Harmony Lemer, Cierra and AnaBelle Dickenson, Alora Eback, Cadell Miller, Liam Martin, Dalton, Emily, Nicole and Rebecca Piper and Penelope and Piper Baugus; sister, Linda (Jim) DeMarse, Ashlyn city, TN; brother, Lawrence Boldt, Sandpoint, Idaho; sisters-in-law, Evelyn Boldt, Bismarck, ND and Lynette Boldt, Minneapolis, MN along with numerous nieces and nephews.
