Daniel A. Movchan, age 86 of rural Ruso, ND passed away Saturday, April 3, 2010, at his home following a lengthy illness.
Daniel A. Movchan, son of Victor and Elizabeth (Masuk) Movchan was born April 18, 1923 on the family farm near Kongsberg, ND. He received his education at the Olivia Township Schools in McHenry County.
Daniel proudly served for four years in the Army during World War II. He was overseas twice during that time. After his honorable discharge, he came back to the Kongsberg area of North Dakota. He bought his Uncle John Masuk's farm and started farming. On December 2, 1948 Daniel married Jeanette Perekrestenko. In 1952 he added Harry Dassenko's farms where he built his home for his family and lived there until his death.
Daniel was on the Butte township board as supervisor for over 45 years. He also served on the Butte township school board and the McLean County weed board. He was a lifetime member and belonged to the Laurence E. Meidl America Legion Post # 270 of Butte, ND for 60 years.
He is survived by Jeanette who was honored and privileged to be his wife for 62 years, daughter, Cathy Lee and son-in-law, George Chagalis (LTC, USA, RET) of Weems, VA; grandson, Daniel Ray Movchan, Minot, ND; sisters, Ann, Ruth, Marion, Agnes, and brother, James.
He was preceded in death by son, Gregory Ray Movchan and sisters, Martha, Doris, Jeanette, and brothers, Paul and Edward, parents, Victor and Elizabeth Movchan.
He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who appreciated happiness, as well as sorrow, strong faith and assurance that the good Lord would see him through it all.
Funeral service:
Thursday, April 8, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Interment:
Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.
Visitation:
Wednesday from 2:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers and plants, memorials are preferred to the donors' choice.
