Obituary

Daniel Hastings, 58, rural Granville and formerly of Burlington and Williston passed away on Tuesday, June 10, 2014 in his lake cabin with his wife and four of his children at his side.

Daniel was born on May 23, 1956 in Watford City to Perry and Josephine (Gawryluk) Hastings. He was reared and educated in the Williston area. He attended a Job Corps Center in 1974 where he obtained his GED and Welding Certificate. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps on August 15, 1974. He served until his honorable discharge on August 29, 1975. He had received the National Defense Service Medal, Rifle Expert Badge and Good Conduct Medal. Following his discharge he returned to Williston to work for his father at Perry's Welding. Later, he owned and operated Diamond Fox Welding. Daniel was once married to Rachael Visser and they were the parents of two children Shawna and Beau.

Daniel met his soul mate Crystal Johnson and they relocated to Minot in 1989. He was employed as a welder/hoist mechanic at Minot Air Force Base and received many awards including Outstanding Performance Award, Notable Achievement Award, Special Act of Service Award, Fifth Civil Engineering Squadron Civilian of the Quarter and Civilian of the Year Awards. Dan married Crystal on June 12, 1993 at Bread of Life Lutheran Church in Minot. They made their home in the Minot area where they raised their four children: Casey, Nicholas, Jared and Nash.

Dan loved and supported his family and friends. One of Dan's and Crystal's dreams was to own lake property and one of their biggest accomplishments was building together, with their children, a lake cabin on the property. They had many good times at the lake cabin with family and friends.

Dan was diagnosed with MDS (leukemia) in February of 2012 and life changed drastically for him and his family. During the summer of 2012, Dan was blessed with a stem cell transplant from his sister Candace. We wish to take this opportunity to thank her for this wonderful gift. However, Dan was forced into early retirement due to this medical condition.

Dan was a man with many interests who enjoyed his family and was blessed with many friends along the way. He especially enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, photography and carpentry.

Dan lives on in the memory of his wife of 21 years Crystal; children: Casey (D'Angelo) Croft and their daughter Londyn of Minot, Nicholas (Katie), Jared and Nash Hastings all of rural Granville; Shawna Hastings (Ben) and their daughter Brynn and Beau Hastings all of Bismarck; mother: Josephine Hastings of Williston; siblings: Candace (Tony) Morse of Mound MN, Derwin (Annette), Sam (Kari) and Joe Hastings all of Williston and Dale (Kari) Hastings of Fargo; stepmother: Lyn Hastings of Williston; stepsisters: Karla McNary, Connie Kritikos and Marnie (Allyn) Elletson all of Williston, Sandy Walker of Dumas TX, Dawn (Matthew) Macias of Elko NV and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Dan was preceded in death by his father and a brother: Douglas.
