Daniel Lee "Dan" Guttormson , 29, Minot, died Friday, April 25, 2014 at his residence.

Dan was born June 28, 1984 at Minot, North Dakota the son of Roger and Beverlee (Rensch) Guttormson. He had a difficult start to his life and almost died as a result of viral encephalitis at one month of age. His survival showed his early determination and emphasized how lucky we were to have him in our lives.

Dan was baptized and later confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church, Minot. His mother lost her battle with lung cancer in 2001. This had a profound effect on the remainder of Dan's life. He attended school in Minot and graduated from Minot High School in 2002.

Dan lived with his longtime girlfriend, Jessica Schultz for the last 10 years. He was employed in Minot at various food service companies throughout the years. He worked as a cashier at Burger King, a server at Applebees and eventually became store manager of one of the Subway Stores in Minot. His work ethic was never questioned and he spent many hours helping to make changes that turned the store around. Although he would complain at times about the long work hours, he had an underlying pride in his ability to see what needed to be changed and the leadership skills to accomplish the task.

Dan enjoyed spending time with his extended family and friends. He truly loved his nieces and nephews and was often present at many of the family gatherings.

His loving family includes , father, Roger (Deb) Guttormson, Minot, brother, Rob (Kyleen) Guttormson, Grand Forks, ND, sister, Zeta Kilbride, Minneapolis, MN, grandmother, Lilas Guttormson, Minot, grandparents, Harold and Jeanne Rensch, Garrison, nieces & nephews, Blake, Abbey, Cole and Kasey, longtime girlfriend and companion, Jessica Schultz and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Dan is preceded in death by his mother, Beverlee, paternal grandfather, Clarence Guttormson and first cousins, Glenn Rensch, Cassi Rensch, Skylar Guttormson and Robert C. Dembek.

Funeral service : Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in Zion Lutheran Church, Minot.
Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot
Visitation: Tuesday, April 29th from 3:00-7:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
In lieu of flowers or plants the family prefers memorials to Minot Youth for Christ or organization of the donor's choice.
