Dale Saugstad , 88, Long time Logan area resident, passed away on December 31, 2009 at Trinity Hospital in Minot.

Dale was born on May 19, 1921 in Minot to Thomas and Eva (Whitted) Saugstad. Dale lived on the family farm located east of Logan from the time that he was three years old. He attended Bell District School and graduated from Minot High School in 1938.

Dale was united in marriage with Leona M. Friesen on June 24, 1944 at the Congregational Church of Christ in Minot. They were married for 62 years and Leona was the light of Dale's life. Leona passed away on October 9, 2006.

Dale took over the family farm in 1944 and, along with Leona at his side, he actively farmed well into his eighties when ill health caused him to slow down. Dale served twenty-seven years on the Sundre Township Board and on the Bell School Board during consolidation of the Bell School Districts. Dale was an avid gun collector and enjoyed hunting as a hobby as well as reciting poetry. He also enjoyed time with his grandchildren and spent many hours reading books to them.

Dale is survived by a son, Harlan Saugstad of Logan; daughters, Mary Hutter (William) of Park Rapids, Minnesota, Kathryn Saugstad of Orlando, Florida, and Rita Parker (David) of Cando; special niece and caregiver, Garnet Baker of Logan; eight grandchildren, Cyndi, Shannon, Kate, Lane, Aaron, Joseph, Jenna and Sarah; six great grandchildren, Ciara, Sean, Abigal, Olivia, Brody and Delaney; and several nieces and nephews.

Dale is preceded in death by his wife, his parents and a sister, Marilyn Campbell.

Funeral Service: Monday, January 4, 2010 at 2:00 at the First Presbyterian Church in Minot.
Visitation: Sunday, January 3, 2010, from noon until 5:00 p.m. at the Thomas Family Funeral Home.
Memorials are preferred to the Kidney Dialysis Unit at Trinity Hospital, Minot.
