Dale Maynard Nesdahl, 65, Minot, died on Thursday, July 11, 2013 in a Minot hospital.
Dale was born on December 13, 1947 in Minot to Orvin and E. Mildred (Jorde) Nesdahl. He was raised and educated in Minot and graduated from Minot High School in 1965. He attended Wahpeton State School of Science from 1966-1967 and received an Associate Degree in diesel mechanics. Shortly thereafter, Dale started working for Midland Diesel Service as a mechanic.
Dale was united in marriage to Renay Grist on May 31, 1968 in Minot. They made their home in Minot where Dale eventually purchased Midland Diesel Service and operated the company as Northern Diesel and Truck with a branch in Dickinson.
Dale achieved his pilot's license in 1972 and continued on to attain his single engine, multi-engine, commercial and instrument ratings. He volunteered his time to fly underprivileged children to Minneapolis to watch the Minnesota Twins and was a founding member of the North Dakota State Chili Society, volunteering for over 20 years to help organize the annual event. He even flew the first ND Chili Champs team to the World Chili Cook-off in Lancaster, CA. Also, he was a charter member of the Dakota Territory Air Museum and a member of the Moose Lodge - Minot, AOPA and AARP. After closing his businesses in Minot and Dickinson, he and a friend started doing free-lance carpentry and remodeling in Minot.
Dale's loving family includes his wife of 45 years: Renay; brothers: Orville (Lynda) Nesdahl, Rice Lake, ND, Myron (Connie) Nesdahl, Monticello, MN, Milton (Louise) Nesdahl, West St. Paul, MN and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins.
Celebration of the Life of Dale Nesdahl: Tuesday, July 16, 2013 at 2:30 p.m. in Zion Lutheran Church Minot.
Visitation: Monday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home Minot.
Memorials are preferred to the donor's choice.
