Dale Kenneth Hagen, 81, Minot, died Thursday, April 19, 2018, in a Minot hospital.
Dale was born November 9, 1936, in Minot, ND to T. Melvin and G. Vivian (Johnson) Hagen. He grew up in rural Minot and attended Bell School. Dale obtained his GED and enlisted in the US Army in1957. He served his country honorably as a Radio Teletype/Radio Operator until his discharge in 1959. Dale then began his career as a dispatcher with the Great Northern Railroad.
He was united in marriage to Lola Lindahl on March 20, 1964 at St. Olaf's Lutheran Church in Tagus, ND. They made their home in Minot then moved to a farm and ranch in Sundre Township southeast of Minot where they lived for 38 years. Dale spent his last 4 years as a resident of Trinity Nursing Home. In addition to his fulltime job with the railroad he was respected as a registered Black Angus cattleman and raised small grains. He retired from Burlington Northern Railroad after 28 years of service.
Dale was a member of Augustana Lutheran Church and then Christ Lutheran Church when the two merged as a result of flooding in spring 2011. He was active as a volunteer with the church. He especially loved the Norsk Hstfest, taking great pride in being involved in the background activities, from cooking at the church and delivering the rice pudding to the arena. His involvement led to him being recognized as a "Swedish Rice Pudding Master Chef." He also belonged to the Minot Moose Lodge for many years, where he enjoyed playing pinochle & pool.
Most important was his role as a husband, father and grandfather. He simply loved his family unconditionally and was so proud of his grandchildren. Evening coulee walks around the farm, picking juneberries, late night fishing trips and fall deer hunting were on his list of favorite activities with his children, grandchildren and friends. He enjoyed many days fishing with Uncle Bill. Dale will be missed by all who shared in his life.
Dale is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Lola, Minot; daughters, Susan (Waldo) Ackerman, Aurora, CO and Brenda (Todd) Hustad, Minot; grandchildren, Kenneth, Amber and Emma Ackerman and Colter and Ashley Hustad; sisters, Joyce Carroll, Schertz, TX and Becky (Ed) Kirby, Owasso, OK; brother, Bruce (Kathy) Hagen, Elk Grove, CA, Aunt Ethel Hauf, Uncle Bill Johnson, along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents and son, Todd Hagen.
