Dale Fundingsland, 88, Minot, died Wednesday, January 13, 2010 in a Minot hospital.

Dale was born on December 12, 1921, in Walhalla, ND to Omar and Mabel (Holwell) Fundingsland. He attended grade school in Climax, MN, until his family moved to Maynard, MN where Dale attended junior and senior high school and where he met the love of his life, Mabel Rasmussen.

They eloped to Sacred Heart, MN and were united in marriage on November 24, 1940. Dale and Mabel lived in Maynard until Dale took a job with the U.S. Treasury Dept. and they moved to Washington, DC where their first son was born.

Dale was an Army Staff Sergeant and artillery instructor during WWII and had a lifelong interest in munitions. A job with the Railroad Retirement Board resulted in transfers to Chicago, IL and Minneapolis, MN and eventually Minot, ND where Dale served as the Office Manager of the Minot division until his retirement.

Dale loved to collect railroad memorabilia and some of his collection can be seen in the Railroad Museum in Minot. He also enjoyed golfing and hunting with his friends, children, and grandchildren.

Dale had an unfailing sense of humor and his dry wit could be counted on to lighten each day. Dale and Mabel enjoyed many fun trips in their years together and recently celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary. Dale enjoyed many years of service with the Boy Scouts and the Kiwanis of Minot. He will be deeply missed by his family as well as many in the community.

Blessed and Loving family includes: loving wife of 69 years, Mabel, Minot; Children, Sharon Paul, Billings, MT, Lynn Fundingsland, Fargo, ND, Kim Fundingsland, and Jodi Fundingsland, both of Minot; Grandchildren, Mike, Tihirih, Patrick, Mark, Steve, Jamie, Sara, Kelli, Jennifer, Lindsey; Great Grandchildren: Lindsey and Amelia; Siblings, Esther Steiner, Grand Forks, ND, Rita Enge, Surprise, AZ, Marlene "Sugar" (Duane) Hanson, Grand Forks, ND, Carol "Muffy" (Ray) Kuentzel, San Jose, CA, Dianne (Tom) Hilde, Bryan, TX, Robert (Judy) Fundingsland, Arlee, MT; along with a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents and son, Jerald, granddaughter, Leah, great-granddaughter, Kirsten, siblings, Joyce Bougie, Veryl Fundingsland, Phyllis Olson, Estelle Fundingsland, Richard Fundingsland, and Alaine Fundingsland.

Funeral service : Saturday, January 16, 2010 at 1:30 p.m. in Bethany Lutheran Church, Minot.

I nterment : Veteran's section of Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot
Visitation: Friday, January 15, 2010, from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials are preferred to Bethany Lutheran Church, Minot or to an organization of the donor's choice.
