Obituary

Cindy Braaflat, 63, of Minot passed away on Sunday, July 7, 2019 following a courageous 3-year battle with breast cancer. Her loving family was at her side.

Cynthia Sue "Cindy" Braaflat was born on May 14, 1956 in Minot to Morris and Nonie (Bjurquist) Nielsen. She was raised on a farm northeast of Plaza and graduated from Plaza High School in 1974. She continued her education at Williston Junior College and Moorhead State College prior to graduating from Iowa State University in 1980 with a degree in elementary education.

Cindy married her high school sweetheart, Carter Braaflat, on October 4th, 1975 at Plaza Lutheran Church. They made their home in Minot where she was employed as a Teacher's Aide and Title One reading teacher at Jefferson and Sunnyside Elementary Schools in Minot. She retired in 2018.

Cindy was a member and deacon at Cornerstone Presbyterian Church in Minot and a member of the state and national education associations. She especially enjoyed flower gardening, bird watching (especially hummingbirds), reading, journaling, Bible studies, and spending time with her cat Marlene. That being said, her passion was her family. In the last twelve years, her greatest joy was her grandchildren. She loved baking cookies with the kids and telling them bedtime stories. The grandkids knew they could always count on grandma to sneak them a treat, even if their dinner wasn't finished. She shared their love for sweets.
