Craig Elliott, 81, Minot died peacefully on Friday, June 4, 2021 in a Minot hospital following a four month battle with cancer. His loving wife was at his side.
Craig was born on September 18, 1939 in Minot to Major and Mattie (Shaffer) Elliott. He was raised and educated in Minot and graduated from Minot High School in 1959. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1962 and was stationed at Fort Hood, Texas where he was a trumpet player in the U.S. Army Band. He received his honorable discharge in 1964. While he was serving in the military in the Dallas area, he saw President John F. Kennedy just a few minutes before he was assassinated. It was a day that Craig never forgot. Following his discharge Craig returned to Minot and attended Minot State University and received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music.
Craig married Martha Erickson on August 30, 1968 in Rugby. They made their home in Minot where Craig was employed by the Minot Dental Lab, Oralogic and City Laundry. Since 1955, he spent the summer months at the Elliott/Schultz cabin at Rice Lake. He was one of the most accomplished water skiers and sailors on the lake. He retired in 2008.
Craig was a member of Cornerstone Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder, Deacon and Trustee as well as the Sons of Norway, Rotary, NRA and American Legion. He especially enjoyed riding motorcycle, riding all the way to Texas for his military duty, and every Wednesday during the summer months with the Souris Riders Motorcycle Club. Also, he enjoyed all sports especially watching Twins and Vikings games and bowled five times per week for a couple of years. A highlight of his life was hosting and chauffeuring Anne Murray on two visits to the Norsk Hostfest.
Craig's loving family includes his wife of 52 years: Martha; daughters: Renee Elliott and Sandra (Frank) Deserly; granddaughters: Amanda, Ceara and Maddie; brother: Keith (Lavonne) Elliott; sister-in-law: Sharon Anderson (Jon) Stork; niece: Hallie Anderson; nephews: Chad and Mike Elliott and Chad and Ryan Anderson and cousins: Paul, Burl and Fred Schultz.
Craig was preceded in death by his parents, aunt and uncle: Merna and Fred Schultz and in-laws: Signe and Jenner Erickson.
Celebration of the Life of Craig Elliott: Tuesday, June 8, 2021 at 1:30 p.m. in Cornerstone Presbyterian Church – Minot.
A private interment was held at Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service in the church.
Memorials are preferred to the family.
