Cleo Mae was born on April 14, 1940 in Minot to Clarence and Mabel (Bott) Moseng. She was educated in various schools including Darrow School in Greely Township, Benedict for one year until graduating from Velva High School in 1958.

After high school Cleo attended Christie's Beauty School in Bismarck where she became a licensed cosmetologist. With license in hand Cleo began her 60-year career in cosmetology. She brought her talents to many communities throughout North Dakota including Wahpeton, Garrison and Bismarck, earning numerous awards along the way for her work.

In 1962, Cleo moved to Denver, CO where she met her soul mate Quent Gonser. Together they owned and operated Cleo's Styling Salon located on Colorado Blvd. Cleo was the talent and Quent served as the business manager. Cosmetology was her passion and considered the advancing of her career a lifelong hobby. She took many continuing education courses to better herself in her field. Cleo also found joy in many other activities that included cooking, sewing and even waterskiing.

Quent passed away on July 4, 1988. Cleo moved back to North Dakota in 2010.

Cleo was a member of Orchard Road Ministries, where she was involved in mission trips around the world. Cleo lived a life of service.
