Obituary

Clayton Elwood Rostad, 80, Minot, died Sunday, October 23, 2016 in his home, surrounded by his loving family.

Clayton was born December 10, 1935, the son of Ole and Cora (Hanson) Rostad, in St. Mary's Township near Carpio, ND. He was raised and educated in St. Mary's Township in Foxholm and Carpio, graduating from Carpio High School in 1954. Following graduation, he enlisted into the U.S. Army on August 4, 1954 until his honorable discharge on July 31, 1956.

Clayton was united in marriage to the love of his life, Carol Mae Arness on December 9, 1956. They made their home in Walhalla until moving to Minot in 1963, where he attended Minot State Teachers College. He began his employment at Bridgeman Creamery and later was employed at Minot Paving as an equipment operator. He worked at Wal-Mart until he retired. Following retirement, he worked part-time at Lowe's Floral in Minot.

Clayton was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Minot and the American Legion. He was also a past member of the Eagle's, Moose, Minot Antique Car Club and Dakota Cruisers. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling, fishing, woodworking and collecting and restoring antiques. He will be missed by all who shared in his life.

Clayton's loving family includes his wife of 60 years, Carol Mae, Minot; children: Ladine (Dennis) Kunnanz, Edmond, OK, Laurie (Tom) Kunnanz, Minot and Jim (Linnea) Rostad, Cottage Grove, MN; grandchildren: Jason Kunnanz, Gregory (Stephanie) Kunnanz, and Dustin (Krystal) Kunnanz, all of Oklahoma, Reed, Shane and Peder Kunnanz, Halie and Jaycie Rostad, all of Minot and Ella and Layton Rostad of Minnesota; great-grandchildren, Cole, Rory, Ali, Callie, Taber, Gemma, Slade, Creed and Camdyn; sister: Adeline Bergeron, Minot; sisters-in-law: Muriel Rostad, Carol Rostad and Darlene Rostad, all of Minot; brother-in-law: Ewald Mueller, Oregon; special caregiver, Connie Coleman, Minot and numerous nieces and nephews.

Clayton was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Sanford, Irven, Lester and Glenn Rostad and sister, Alice Mueller.

Celebration of Life Service : 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 28, 2016, at Christ Lutheran Church, Minot.
Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.
Visitation: Thursday, October 27, 2016, from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials are preferred to Christ Lutheran Church or the National Parkinson's Foundation.
