IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Clarence Leroy
Marshall
October 15, 1926 – December 29, 2019
Clarence Marshall, 93, Minot and former longtime Burlington/Des Lacs area farmer, died on Sunday, December 29, 2019 in a Velva care center.
Clarence LeRoy Marshall was born on October 15, 1926 on the family farm between Burlington and Des Lacs, ND to William and Hulda (Skoglund) Marshall. He was raised on the farm, attended rural school and graduated from Burlington High School in 1943. As a young adult he assisted his family with the operation of the farm.
Clarence married Carole Anderson on April 10, 1951 in Minot. They made their home on the family farm in Burlington Township of Ward County. Their first home on the farm was a two room bunkhouse that they lived in for four years with 3 of their children until they built a house. Clarence raised small grains and, in his mind, never ever retired. Carole and Clarence moved into a condominium in Minot in 1998 and then to Brentmoor in 2013. Carole died on September 2, 2016. Most recently, he had resided at Maple View and the Souris Valley Care Center - Velva.
Clarence was a member of the Des Lacs United Methodist Church, North Dakota Farmers Union and Minot Farmers Union Elevator Board during the construction of the main elevator facility. Also, he was a member of the Eagles Aerie, Moose Lodge and Elks Lodge. He especially enjoyed bowling, reading, playing cards, watching the Weather Channel and caring for animals especially strays, but his number one passion was farming and family.
Clarence's loving family includes his children: William (MaryLou) Marshall of Minot, Michael (Pam) Marshall of Garrison, Linda (Harry) Hystad of rural Velva, Gregory (Margie) Marshall of Burlington and Lori (Steve) Selfors of Lake Metigoshe; grandchildren: Sarah (Aaron) Carr, Kristi Marshall, Stacey (David) Erickson, Jessica (Tyrell) Smestad, Matthew Hystad, Colin (Julie) Marshall, Katlin Marshall, Shawn Marshall and Marshall Selfors; great grandchildren: Viktoria, Haleigh and Caleb Carr, Natalie and Everett Smestad, Cadence Hystad, Carter and Emma Marshall; in-laws: Jeanette Marshall of Minot; Dona Smedley of Flagstaff AZ, Denyce Walker of Lebanon OR and Leona (Blaine) Janz of Mesa AZ; one cousin and numerous nieces and nephews.
