Obituary

Clarence Robert Hall, 86, longtime Berthold resident died on Sunday, January 22, 2012 in a Minot hospital.

Clarence was born on January 6, 1926 in Bottineau to George and Etta (Pugh) Hall. He was reared and educated in Bottineau. As a young adult he was employed by the Great Northern Railroad and served in the U.S. Navy from March 29, 1944 until January 28, 1946. Following his honorable discharge he returned to North Dakota and resided in Devils Lake.

Clarence married Genovieve Lautenschlager on May 20, 1948 in Berthold. They made their home on a Berthold area farm, and he was employed by area farmers. He owned and operated the Drayline in Berthold (a transport company responsible for hauling coal, ashes, cream etc. to local train stations) from 1953 until 1956. He was employed as the Berthold Public School custodian from 1956 until 1963 prior to establishing Hall Construction Company in 1963. He was involved in various home building and remodeling projects prior to his retirement in 1988. He had continued to reside in Berthold following his retirement.

Clarence was an active member of St Ann's Catholic Church and American Legion Post both in Berthold and the Knights of Columbus in Minot. As a result of his active promotion of youth and amateur baseball in the Berthold area, Clarence was inducted into the North Dakota Baseball Hall of Fame in 1999. Clarence especially enjoyed traveling, woodworking, and golfing.

Clarence's loving family includes his wife of 63 years Genovieve: Curtis (Leann) Hall of Berthold, Bernard (Mary) Hall of Harvey, Doug (Marcia) Hall of Grand Forks, LeRoy (Shirley) Hall of Chantilly, VA, Margaret (Ken) Dahl of Grand Forks, Susan (Jeff) Hagel of Minot, Francis (Brenda) Hall of Mohall, Steven (Pam) Hall of Kindred, Jim (Kim) Hall of Fargo, Sharon (Tyler) Mollerud of Berthold, Roberta (John) Aarfor of Bismarck and Raymond (Karene) Hall of Center; 43 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; siblings: Florence Trebas of Bottineau and Archie Hall of Aberdeen, WA and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Clarence was preceded in death by his parents, daughter: Barbara, sisters: Mary Helen Bliss, Alta Brandvold, Zelma Brandvold, Lil Selvog; brothers: Charlie, Wallace, Armand, and Norman.

Visitation: Wednesday from noon until 3:00 pm at Thomas Family Funeral Home Minot and from 5:30 until 7:00 pm in St Ann's Catholic Church Berthold.

Vigil Prayer Service: Wednesday at 7:00 pm at St Ann's Catholic Church Berthold.

Mass of Christian Burial: Thursday, January 26, 2012 at 10:30 am at St Ann's Catholic Church Berthold.

Interment will be in Wildrose Cemetery Berthold.

Memorials are preferred to: Berthold Ambulance, Berthold Golf Club, Bomber Boosters, or your preference.
