Obituary

Clarence Cogdill of Burlington, died April 21, 2017. He was 91.

Clarence was born August 28, 1925 in Des Lacs, ND to Delbert and Lois (Cowan) Cogdill. He was raised on the family farm and attended country schools in Des Lacs Township. As a young adult, he farmed in Rolling Green Township and was employed by Burlington Northern Railroad. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy on May 29, 1944 and was discharged on March 23, 1946.

Clarence married Gwendolyn Sipes June 22, 1945 in Bloomington, Indiana. They made their home near Burlington and farmed small grains and raised livestock. He also drove school bus for Des Lacs-Burlington schools for thirty-two years. He retired from farming and driving bus in 1997. In his retirement years, he raised a large vegetable garden and sold the produce at the farm and local famer's market.

Clarence was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church where he served as an Elder. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and a Boy Scouts and 4-H Leader. His hobbies included gardening, hunting, fishing and a special love for animals.

Clarence's loving family includes his wife of 71 years: Gwendolyn; daughters: Patty Cogdill of Beulah; Lisa (James) Walker of Maple Grove, MN; sons: Bob (Geri) Cogdill of Minot; Brad (Lois) Cogdill of Fargo; daughter-in-law: Nancy Cogdill of Souris; sister: Eunice (Walt) Mertz of Minot; sister-in-law: Carol Cogdill of Berthold. Grandchildren: Cory (Jesse) Cogdill, Chris (Lynnette) Cogdill, Jamie (Kris) Mortenson, Laura (Todd) Nelson, Heather (Benjamin) Opland, Joshua (Amy) Cogdill, Meghan Cogdill and Courtney, Caitlyn, Benjamin and Jonathan Walker. Great-grandchildren: Lainee and Tylee Cogdill; Tess, Rayna and Jace Mortenson; Claire and Karly Nelson; Charlie, Audrey and Kate Opland; Delila and Harrison Cogdill. Many nieces and nephews and his special pets Sam and Fluffer.

Clarence was preceded in death by his parents: Delbert and Lois Cogdill, son: Larry Cogdill; sisters: Leona Leifson, Inez Stevenson, Wyoma Ingolfsland, brothers: Duane Cogdill, Homer Cogdill, Richard Cogdill.

Celebration of the Life of Clarence Cogdill: Thursday, April 27, 2017 at 2 p.m. in St. Mark's Lutheran Church - Minot.
Interment: Rolling Green Cemetery, rural Des Lacs, ND.
Visitation: Wednesday, April 26, 2017 from 3-7 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home, 304 Main St. S., Minot.
In lieu of plants and flowers, memorials are preferred to St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Minot.
