Clara Ann Schell, 84, Garrison, formerly of Minot, died Sunday, October 18, 2020 in a Garrison Hospital.

Clara was born March 20, 1936 at Lodi, California, the daughter of John and Bernice (Hanson) Weber. She was raised on a fruit ranch in California and attended the Woodbridge School there. Her parents had moved to California in 1935 during the great depression years. The family returned to North Dakota in 1943 to a cattle and grain farm near Pickardville. She attended country schools in that area until the family moved to a farm Northeast of Goodrich, ND in 1948.

Clara graduated from Goodrich High School in 1954, where she had participated in choir, band and School Annual and Paper staff. She won a State Award for Typing. She had also received two "Good Citizen" Awards while in high School. She attended Minot State College and Concordia Teacher's College in River Forest, Illinois. She returned to North Dakota, where she taught at Regent, Drake, Bismarck and Lynch Immanuel School, located north of Minot.

Clara married the love of her life, Duane Schell on June 18, 1960 in McClusky, ND. They made their home in Minot, where they raised their three children, Jeffrey, Gregory and Leanne. In addition, she supplemented the family income by teaching private and group piano lessons in their home. She also opened the first Musical Kindergarten in North Dakota and did childcare and laundry for others. As the years progressed, she also owned and operated Schell's Shaklee Shoppe, owned and operated the Nanny Connection, where she helped young Women find a Nanny job throughout the USA. She also worked as a lab receptionist at Medical Arts Clinic and as a secretary, receptionist, and office manager for a local insurance company. Her husband, Duane was employed with Westland Oil and later owned and operated the Velva Parts Company. He died July 8, 2011. She had moved to Garrison in 2012 after losing their home in the flood of 2011.

Clara was very active in Church and School Activities. She was a former member of St John's Lutheran Church in McClusky, St. Paul's Lutheran in Minot and charter member of Our Savior Lutheran in Minot.   At these churches she had served as organist, Sunday School teacher, Bible Study leader, was active with the LWML, serving with Church Circles, served on the Evangelism team and served on many committees.

Clara's loving family includes children, Jeffrey Schell, Rapid City, SD, Gregory (LouAnne) Schell, Minot and Leanne (Wayno Petersen) Pepperworth of Garrison; 8 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; siblings, James Weber, Guide Rock, NE, Robert Weber, Wing, ND, Bernice Schuh, Bismarck, ND along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Clara was preceded in death by her parents and husband of 51 years.

Interment: 3:00 p.m. Thursday, October 29, 2020 at the ND Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, ND
Visitation: Wednesday, October 28, 2020 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials are preferred to Our Savior Lutheran Church, Minot.
