Charlotte Vivian Borud , 86, Minot died on Wednesday, October 2, 2013 in a Minot nursing home.
Charlotte was born on August 19, 1927 on the family homestead near Benedict, ND to Carl and Martha (Gunderson) Moseng. She was reared on the family farm in Greely Township of Ward County and attended rural school. She attended Benedict High School prior to graduating in 1945 from Velva High School where she was an honor student and cheerleader. After graduation she moved to Longview, WA to live with her sister and worked at the Polar Bar ice cream store and at Weyerhauser, in addition to attending Lower Columbia College. She returned to Minot and was employed at Alm's Dairy Store and at B & B Drug.
Charlotte married John Borud on May 27, 1947 in Wolf Point, MT. They made their home in Minot where she was a fulltime wife, extraordinary mother, grandmother and homemaker and substantially partnered with her husband in the operation of Minot Steel and Tube, a successful entrepreneurial effort, from 1985 until 1996, when they sold the business to a larger concern. John died on June 16, 2006. Since then, Charlotte has continued to make her home in Minot, first at The View, and most recently at Trinity Homes for the past two years.
Charlotte was a homemaker in every sense of the word, baking, cooking, decorating, reupholstering, sewing, quilting and making wall hangings and beautiful, artistic quilts for her family. However, this description is not adequate in portraying her true role. She displayed profound wisdom, self-education, pride, and an inspired service to her family and community. First and foremost she was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Also, she was a longtime member of Zion Lutheran Church of Minot where she taught Sunday School.
Charlotte is survived by her children: Karla (Garry) Mathiason of Los Altos Hills CA, Katherine Boomer of Weymouth MA and Dr. Loren J Borud of Hollywood FL; grandchildren: Jessica and Tiffany Mathiason, and Kristen, Sarah, Jackie and Joseph Boomer and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sisters: Gena, Minnie, and Myrtle; and brothers: Clarence, Art, Morris and Harold Moseng.
Mom was the epitome of grace, style, education, self-sacrifice, the pioneer spirit, and was the embodiment of the best mother and wife one could imagine. She was beautiful, artistic, and bold. Charlotte charmed all that knew her. She achieved great and noble things, far beyond what could have been anticipated by her humble beginnings. An inspiration to many, she maintained both a witty sense of humor and a certain home-spun wisdom, grounded firmly in her religious faith. To many, she was one in a million. To those who knew her best, she was simply one. Period. Rest in Peace, Angel Mother. We love you.
